Mutant Chronicles (2008)

April 10th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

poster3 This review is like a couple of weeks late, but anyways. I was home at Flack’s place to see this much anticipated piece of art that so many people have said so much good things about. I mean, you got some post-apocalyptic warfare, mutants, explosions, chicks, Ron Perlman, Doomsday closing in, and so on. What can possibly go wrong?

Everything.

The movie sucked. Believe me, I really tried to like it. I really did. I wanted to like it, but I couldn’t. A universe where there is a fraction who calls themselves “Bauhaus” can’t really be taken seriously.

The problem lies in the fact that everything in the movie seems so scripted and stupid. Like one dude breaking free from the group and attacking a bunch of mutants just because his friend is being their prey. Stupid fucktard, you will of course get everyone killed (which he almost did). Such non-sense disrupts the movie, which on the other hand where quite beatiful considering the esthetics; dirty, post-apocalyptic environments together with lot of gore, explosions and large kickass machines. And Ron Perlman. It’s like paradise.

(One thing to note is that I didn’t know anything about the Mutant Chronicles role-playing game before watching this movie. I didn’t even know it existed such a game).

I can’t really say that I would recommend this one, since it doesn’t meet up to my expectations. But it is hell of a lot better than watching a movie starring Hugh Grant (Flack would probably disagree here…) =].

And you get Ron Perlman. So why not? Just don’t expect too much.

Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj (2006)

van-wilder-2-the-rise-of-tajOkay. So how can I make this review as small as possible? I’ll answer your questions: Funny? Yes. Hilarious? No. Entertaining? Yes. Works well as a Oh-My-God-I’m-So-Hung-Over-Movie? Yes. Sexy girls in the movie? Yes. Raises thoughts in your head? Hell no. Predictable? Hell yes.

That should be it. Go see it if you want to.

Unearthed (2007)

April 10th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

unearthed3 A.K.A Deep Fear. As far as I’ve understood this is a low-budget movie festival shit that holds a bit higher quality than the average shit they show at these events. And I agree to a certain extent. I think that the strength of Unearthed is that Charlie Murphy (Eddie Murphy’s brother) is one of the main characters.

I didn’t really get the story, but there are some kind of underground monster who comes alive after like… an eternal rest and starts killing people in a small american southern town (or sumthin’ like that). One person after another is killed, like in a Terror on Elm Street or Friday the 13th movie (yeah, the movie really works like those classic horror movies). Gore scenes are okay, but not spectacular (except when one dude get his head split in half – that’s pretty cool).

Unearthed is not the best horror movie ever made, but it is worth seeing, if you happen to stumble upon it. Don’t bother paying too muh to see it though, it’s not that good.

Mirrors (2008)

April 10th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

mirrors_movie_poster Mirrors is one of the better horror movies I’ve seen. Really.
Synopsis: Kiefer Sutherland plays the role as a former cop who gets a job as a watchman at an old, burned down department store (why would you want a watchman in such a place, really?). Anyways. There’s a lot of mirrors there. And strange things start to happen as he works his way through the night shifts. He sees things in the mirrors that isn’t reflected in the real world. It seems as if there is something supernatural going on inside the mirrors.

Then people start dying. The die after their mirror image does terrible things to theirselves. It is a shame that it is a bit too “Hollywoodish” type of fear (you know, that kind of fear which make you jump high in the chair) instead of japanese quality fear (i.e. suspension and psychological terror). But even with that fact in mind, I did enjoy this movie. Since the gory scenes and the special effects are done so well, and I can’t complain about the acting either. And, of course, the end is a bit intriguing. See for yourself, I think you will like it.
